Weekly Update and Progress Report
Week: 4, 2nd Feb to 6th Feb 2009

Programme:
Excavation and sub-base laying to central area, laying of Geotextile and Geo-grid support system and construction of ACO drainage system (between existing dish drains). No delay to programme.

Work Activity:

Sat 31st Jan
Excavating to full construction depth from alongside the Madoc Public House to Barnados premises in central area

Mon
Excavation for ACO channels from Peacocks down.

Excavation to construction depth from Eateasy to clock tower in central area. 

Due to the wet spots within the clay the site is to have a Terram layer installed as a separation layer between the sub-soil with a Geo-grid laid over it to provide further stability.

Tues
Contaminated clay was found in the excavation alongside Boots in the central area. Clay was excavated and disposed off site. Soft spots further excavated and Terram laid to provide a separation layer between the excavated soft spots and capping layer.

Wed
Continued excavation of the ACO channels with the finished levels for the ACO pegged out and agreed on site.

A water pipe alongside the Eateasy restaurant was dislodged with water spraying onto the public footpath. The water froze very quickly due to the low temperatures. The Contractor placed a member of the site staff alongside the frozen area to warn members of the public to the hazard whilst another staff member went to get grit to cover the area with. The grit was applied within 45 minutes and the pipe was repaired by Welsh Water within 1.5 hrs.

The pedestrian access throughways between each side of the site were closed and the area excavated in order to allow for the ACO construction to be run right through and to allow the Terram and Geo-grid to be laid without interruption.

Thurs
ACO channel construction began from the top end of the site (Peacocks).

Fri
Continued construction of the ACO channels. Laying of the Terram and Geo-grid layers in the central excavated area.

Next Weeks Programme:
Excavation of wet spots at bottom of site prior to laying of Terram and Geo-grid. Sub-base drop along entire central area and laying of HDM layer.
