Sea View Road Week 15

8th October 2009

Weekly Report - Week 15

Week Ending 25th April 2008

Works outside the Bay View Centre main doors were completed and opened to the public. The emergency exit from the Bay View Centre was utilised as the ingress and egress route for the public whilst the flagging was laid. It should be noted that the Manager of the Bay View Centre was very co-operative, and without this, the works would have been further delayed.

A large area of the site has been opened to the public from the Bay View entrance down towards Station Road. It is anticipated that the entire area from the entrance to Station road will be completed by the end of next week.

The area immediately outside the emergency door for the Bay View Centre will require further works to be undertaken. The flags immediately outside it were discovered to be grading towards the building. This occurred due to rush to open those doors to the public in order to commence the works outside the main doors to the centre.

The grouting of the joints required a greater volume of the Flow Point product than had been anticipated by the contractor. The main reason was the feature, which having greater areas of small setts, required more product due to the larger number of joints contained within.

It is now anticipated that the works will fall behind due to the lack of progress by the flagging contractors.

CCBC have expressed the necessity for urgency to commence and complete the works outside the businesses to the main contractor. No method statement or anticipated time scales for those works have yet been detailed to CCBC’s Senior Engineer. They have, however, undertaken a visit to all of the businesses to explain and detail their intentions for the works on the shop frontages.

Several of the lighting columns have had the lanterns constructed. The arms for the hanging baskets were placed at 3.5m off the ground. Whilst this was being undertaken the electrician had to drive a cherry picker across the new flagging. No issues were found with the flagging or grouting during or after the vehicle was on the area.
