What an 11 months it’s been for everyone connected with Colwyn Bay & the Bay Life initiative.November 2008 saw the announcement from the Welsh Assembly that Colwyn Bay, along with Rhyl, was to be designated as the North Wales Coastal Strategic Regeneration Area. Then in 2009 came the announcement that, as part of a £38million bid across North Wales, Colwyn Bay is to benefit from £11.3million of European Funding.
The designation of a North Wales Coastal Strategic Regeneration Area is for seven years initially and could involve millions of pounds for projects in public and private money. The schemes will include a boost to tourism in Rhyl and Colwyn Bay, improving the environment and raising skill levels. Other themes identified are Housing, Sustainable Economy, Community Cohesion and Health & Well Being
The European funding will focus on Physical Regeneration in Colwyn Bay with specific projects earmarked for the Environmental improvement of the seafront which will improve facilities and boost tourism, while town centre renewal projects have also been proposed which will include CCTV and lighting, Street furniture and Community space.
