Communities first

Communities first

Colwyn Bay has been designated a Communities First area.  It covers parts of the Glyn ward and part of the Rhiw ward from Eirias Park to the West End of town.  Communities First is a Welsh Assembly Government programme to help those areas experiencing the most disadvantage.  The aim is to work with local people to enable them to play an active part in their community.

A partnership has been set up to develop a plan for the way forward locally.  This consists of community representatives, voluntary sector, business sector and statutory organisations.  The plan will address on a local level of themes of Community Safety, Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Child Poverty, Education Skills and Training, Jobs, Business and Income Generation.  Where appropriate we will be working with the Bay Life regeneration initiative on projects to improve the town.

If you are interested in getting involved or would like further information, advice or assistance please contact the Communities First Team who are based in the Bay Life Information Centre, Colwyn Bay or call 01492 531996 or e-mail sarah.mylchreest@conwy.gov.uk.

Are you a small community led group or not for profit organisation?  Are you based in Colwyn Bay or do you support the communities of Colwyn Bay?

If ‘yes’ you may be able to apply for funding from the Communities First Trust Fund.  £20,000 is available for local groups to apply for.

The Trust Fund is a Welsh Assembly Fund aimed at small community led organisations in Communities First areas across Wales.

The deadline for applications is January 31st 2010.
