Take a walk around Colwyn Bay and you won’t fail to notice the distinctive architecture.
Most of the Bay’s red brick houses were built during the late Victorian period for wealthy residents. Some were later converted to hotels and guest houses during the town’s heyday as a holiday resort but the area’s history goes much further back than that.
Close by you'll find remnants from as long ago as the Iron Age as it happens, and you can follow the Rhos on Sea Heritage Trail to discover Bryn Euryn hill fort complete with fantastic views of the Bay as well as the tiny 6th century Chapel of St Trillo on the Shore...but there’s history on a personal level here too.
The internet has made it easier than ever to track our family histories and connections to a particular area. If you’re a resident of the Bay, or have family here, you might want to spend some time looking to find out about your roots in the Bay.
